Muddy Miser, in the 1800s, was a reclusive market fisherman who lived in an old abandoned pottery house on the banks of Dillon Falls. Young Pearl (Zane) Grey fished those waters with a youthful passion. Against his mother's warnings to, "stay away from that good-for-nothing fisherman," Pearl became his friend, learning the art and poetry of fishing from the old gentleman. Muddy Miser was a sage...giving Zane Grey valuable lessons about the outdoors and encouraging him to "one day fish the seven seas." In later years, with the money he made from selling his famous western novels, Zane Grey fulfilled Muddy's prophecy and fished the world for record billfish aboard his 140 foot schooner, Fisherman 1.
